The Mind
Relationships can feel like prisons because of constricted thinking, incomplete thinking, or wrong thinking. Freedom in relationships comes from unbounded holistic thinking.
—Dr. Denn
More than anything, the Twelve Ways Healing program is about perspective. Our view of the world is our philosophy that steers our course through life.
What is the place of Mind in Mind Body Relationship Medicine? Just as when we apply healthy therapies to the body it becomes medicine, when we train our minds in holistic thinking, our thoughts becomes a healthy medicine. Therefore, mind as medicine exists.
Our thoughts therefore need some frame of reference and basic concepts from which to operate. According to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, being angry causes dysfunction of the liver; hopelessness and depression cause dysfunction of the pancreas; fear causes dysfunction of the kidneys. The reverse is also true; a problem with your liver, pancreas and kidneys can cause these emotional reactions.
Did you know that if you do get sick and you are in a problematic marriage or relationship, a moderate illness could lead to a severe illness? And if you do get sick and you're in a good relationship, you are likely to get better much quicker?
Go to these websites to get an idea of the type of work we do here at Twelve Ways Center in the area of addressing the tricks of the mind, or reality vs. illusion.

Molecules of Emotion
The word “trauma” has been used to describe both physical and mental damage and is a key part of the theory of how the molecules of emotion integrate what we feel at every level of our bodymind. As a practical manner, people have a hard time discriminating between physical and mental pain. So often we are “stuck” in an unpleasant emotional event – a trauma – from the past that is stored at every level of our nervous system and even on the cellular level – i.e., cells that are constantly becoming and renewing the nervous system. Biology of Belief
Author Dr. Bruce Lipton is a former medical school professor and research scientist. His experiments, and that of other leading edge scientists, have examined in great detail the processes by which cells receive information. The implications of this research radically change our understanding of life. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology; that instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts. |

Dr. Hammer's Theory of Trauma
Dr. Hammer flatly states that all cancer starts with a severe psychological conflict that throws you into shock. He says, "You isolate yourself, and do not share your emotions with others. You are upset and do not share with others--you are obsessed about the conflict. This conflict changes your life completely--you will never be the same." (This is a description of a major Significant Emotional Experience, or SEE.) This type of SEE, according to Hammer, usually occurs on the average of one to three years prior to the onset of the first symptoms of cancer.

Simonton Cancer Center
The Simonton Method in its current, most evolved form, may be described as a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral self-help therapy for patients with cancer and their support persons. This approach is comprehensive because it directly addresses all spheres of human existence: emotional, cognitive, behavioral, social and spiritual integrated in an internally consistent program. |
